George
His name is George.
George came into the store in the morning for breakfast and around noon for lunch every day. After he noticed I was the new florist, he started coming up to me and asking for Impatiens. Just starting out as a florist and not having much knowledge of certain plants I had absolutely no idea what he was talking about. I thought to myself... I would consider myself a pretty patient person.... The next week he asked again if there were Impatiens, I wondered what on earth is he talking about... I asked my manager and he told me that he (George) comes in every day and that the Impatiens don't arrive for another couple of weeks. Thats when I had learned that Impatiens are actually a type of plant.
Soon enough more plants began to arrive and the more and more I learned about George.
He was an avid gardener who lived close by. One day my friend and I went over to his house to see his garden and we were amazed. He had everything from Dahlias, Elephant Ears (Green and Black), Hydrangeas, Roses, Banana Trees to Fern and Grapes. But his most prize possession was his Mexican Sun Flowers.
Being located in the North East, a colder atmosphere, we learned that most of these plants are tropical. Soon we also learned that he had turned his basement into a indoor greenhouse with grow lights, heat and a sprinkler system set up on a timer. He loved to see these small plants bloom up to the ceiling. He later convinced me to join the town Horticulture Club which met once a month at the church down the road. He also convinced me to have tropical plants in my garden. I blame George for my new found obsession of plants...
George has years and years of experience and is one of those people you are very grateful to have come in your life. I have learned a lot from him and not just what Impatiens were.
