Indoor Plants

Over the years I have been increasing my collection of plants, one here, two there, maybe another here. Some were gifts, some I just had to buy! When I notice that they are starting to slow down their growing I replant them in bigger pots and add fresh soil. I also move them around the room so they get different sides toward the sun. Once the weather warms up I place them all outside to get fresh air, with the best direct sun light and some pollination if they have flowers on them. Below are some of my plants that I have growing inside:

After eating any fruit with big seeds in them I usually just stick the seeds in dirt and see what happens. As you can see above I put multiple seeds I got from a grapefruit into dirt, and well.... they all took off. They have been growing very slowly since it is a tropical plant and inside in the north, and over the last year they have been slowly popping up. Here I took them all out of their pots to replant them into bigger pots. Their roots are stiff and so strong, it amazed me. Their leaves are also a thick waxy type as well.

Avocados! I went through a phase of obsession with guacamole. Around the same time all those graphic tees in the mall had all those guacamole/avocado jokes on them. It was apparently a craze. So as you see in this picture I had planted a few of the pits from avocados into water and over a year or so this plant has grown so big I had to already replant it 5 times! No avocados yet, but I'm okay with that. The leaves are different shades of green and beautiful shapes. If you ever happen to buy an avocado from a grocery store or farmers market, try putting it in water and see what happens!

oh my succulents! The best and worst part of a succulent is that when the pedals fall off, they start forming roots and grow into another succulent. I feel bad throwing them out so I let them grow....and grow....and grow! I could basically open up a succulent farm at this point I have so many of them. They are very fragile and delicate and the pedals easily fall off if you bump into them. But they do add color and arn't very needy which is nice as well!

If money trees actually had money growing on them... I could definitely have retired by now. When I worked as a florist we sold these, and they all sold within a few weeks except one. This guy just would not sell, he ended up being more the stores plant then a plant for sale. I grew close to him everyday and took extra care of him. Finally one day I bought him and took him home. Instead of five branches which most had, this guy had four. But that didn't stop it from growing in a beautiful house plant. You usually see these plants in nail salons and their almost touching the ceiling their so big. Knowing that this guy can potentially grow that big is very exciting and I definitely will never let this guy go!

Elephant Ears! I thought it was the most hilarious name for a plant, but they actually do look like elephant ears! My friend George loves these! And only last year i knew that they actually have flowers on them! They are also bulbs, which I did not know. I couldn't care to see this plant die so I dug it up, put in the largest pot I could find and brought that sucker inside! It takes up a lot of room, and recycles a leaf once every two weeks! It drinks lots of water but the leaves are beyond gorgeous with their vanes and color. I highly recomend trying to grow this at least once in your life time, if you have the room!
