Oh HONEY!

Completed my first honey harvest of the season! Only a handful of frames were fully capped for harvesting this early in the year, many were still only half capped which means I will have to wait a couple more weeks until I can pull them for harvesting.

I started by renting an extractor from my local beekeeping supply store for a couple of days. The rental came with a 4 frame manual extractor, knife, and a ‘bee smart’ holder to hold up the frames while removing the wax.

I ended up also buying an uncapping fork, and a metal honey strainer for taking out all those loose wax capping and bee debris left in the honey.

I started by removing the full frames and brushing all the bees off of it, next I set the uncapped frames in the extractor and spun for 10 minutes on each side before flipping them.

After spinning and getting a good arm workout I next placed the bottling bucket below and let the magic pour out!

Next up is putting all this delicious honey into bottles!
